Birth: Maximillian

August 3, 2010

When you first meet somebody, you never know how deeply they’ll touch you and change your life. I met Karen last summer through a mommy’s group she organized. I thought we’d have fun together during occasional playdates, but never imagined I’d be so incredibly blessed to be invited to photograph the birth of her second child. We had met just a handful of times and happened to be at a play date together when I told her that I felt a calling to birth photography and nervously made my bold proposal to photograph her son’s birth. She said she’d chat with her husband Erick about it.  A few days passed… she said “yes”… and I’m sure I pranced around the house for the rest of that day with nervous, excited energy. As the months passed, we stayed in touch and I’ve come to know Karen as a strong, beautiful friend who is full of life who perseveres when many people would give in.  And now, this sweet family will always have a big place in my heart for inviting me into one of the most intimate and miraculous moments in their lives… the birth of their precious son, Maximillian.

Introducing Maximillian. July 21, 2010… 30 seconds old

Karen and Erick – words can’t express how much I appreciate the two of you and adore your sweet family.  I’m looking forward to watching Max grow up!

I have too many emotions about this moment to do it justice in words.  It’s my first birth photography experience and one that I will forever cherish. One that I hope will open doors to many, many more.  Look for a longer post this weekend.  For now, a sneak peek of Max, just 30-minutes new with his joyful parents Karen and Erick.
